‘Open innovation’ is a term that has emerged to describe the use of: “[..] inflows and outflows of knowledge to accelerate internal innovation, and expand the markets for external use of innovation [..].” (Chesbrough et al., 2006). Though it has been said to have some of the characteristics of a management fad, at its heart seems to be something that integrates tried and tested collaborative business activities, has the potential to improve the ability of firms to introduce new products and services, but which is very challenging to implement effectively.
This blog aims to provide commentary on the practical challenges of making open innovation work, to highlight new research outputs that help build understanding of open innovation, and to signpost events and organisations that share common interest in making open innovation work.
Identify and sharing new ideas and research on how to implement open innovation.
